What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha yoga (ha = sun, tha = moon) is a general category that includes the physical practices of the different yoga styles. Hatha yoga, as one of these different styles of yoga, aims at balancing the body-mind-complex and increasing the flow of prana in the body. Prana is the Sanskrit term for life force or energy. It is similar to the concept of chi. Balancing body and mind as well as increasing the vital energy is achieved through the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises), which prepare the body and mind for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.
